¨ Tortuguero Village is a small collection of rustic wooden shacks on a narrow spit of land between the Caribbean Sea and a dense maze of jungle canals. It has been called Costa Rica 's Venice , but it has actually more in common with the South American Amazon. As you explore the narrow canals here, you will see a wide variety of herons and other water birds, three types of monkeys, three-toed sloths, and caimans. If you come between June and October, you might be treated to the awe-inspiring spectacle of a green turtle nesting. The small stretch of Tortuguero beach is the last remaining major nesting site of this endangered animal¨

DAY 1

In the morning we will pick you up at your hotel in San Jose . Then we will drive to the Atlantic lowlands near Limon. About mid-day we will board a boat with local guides and depart towards Tortuguero on a 2-to-3-hour boat trip.
On the late afternoon the boat will arrive at Tortuga Lodge for dinner and overnight. (L,D)

DAY 2

After breakfast explore by boat the canals of Tortuguero National Park with a Naturalist Guide. On these creeks we will observe a wide variety of wildlife and flora. Return for lunch at the Lodge.
The rest of the day is free for optional excursions (at additional cost).
Dinner and night at Tortuga Lodge. (B,L,D)
